And how do you want others to feel about your art?
I want them to like knowing something about my art. I want people to have the desire to read my comics. But it’s not just about being curious, it’s about having the desire to understand. Often we don’t understand because we’re not willing to understand.

You
know, I just feel something and I’d like to speak. My art is my
question to the world and this question will always change as long as
I’m breathing and thinking.
I’m a young girl from contemporary China. I’m feeling, pondering, and must express all this. It’s just like the way a whale sings in the deep sea hoping another of its kind out there can hear it. That’s why we feel happy living together in the same world. I often feel I’m like a whale and I thank those who listen attentively to my sounds.
So when did this all begin? How did you first get into art?
I started drawing comics and publishing them in high school because I
just fell in love with it. That’s what I’m going to do, I
thought at that time. It’s a little strange I guess. Nobody does
art work in my family and many of them are engineers but my father likes
poetry and playing the violin. I actually studied music when I was young,
played the piano and dizi, wrote music… it was something
I could’ve gone into. Then I dropped everything to be a painter
and my teacher was devastated!
Haha, what kind of music do you listen to?
It’s quite broad… I like blues, hip hop, R&B, electronic… and Japanese and Korean music too. What’s interesting is that I’m now listening to Chinese music more after I’ve been in America. I feel I didn’t know enough about Chinese music and I should do something about it.
What other interests do you have?

I
like photography, fashion and walking outside especially after it’s
just rained. I also began trying yoga recently. And I bought a new swimsuit
but haven’t had the chance to use it! There are no beaches in my
city, you see. I want to go somewhere that has a nice beach this summer.
To try on my suit, hehe.
Ah is this where Roby des Roby e comes in?
Sort of. It’s something I just painted, wishing everybody a nice summer!
But who’s Roby?
Roby’s one of my characters. She’s a rabbit girl, childish, and always searching for food (apples) in a modern city like Paris. And then she meets another girl who’s totally different.
This is quite different from your usual work.
Yeah, it’s a light-hearted story. Right now I’m drawing something
about the two characters but it’s not a comic… I’ll
probably draw the comic later so please wait for it to come out.
