People often comment that your art can be divided into three categories:
the abstract, the monsters and the girls. How accurate is that?
Kind of. There’s the totally abstract: no figures, monsters or
characters. There’s the figurative: those girls that look more like
fashion illustrations. Then there’s character designs and
monsters.
My works are beginning to merge and you can tell from the last paintings
I did of lots of abstract monsters. It’s like taking one of the
monster paintings and combining it with my abstract pieces.
You know, when you say character designs I think, “Most artists are more interested in designing human characters, though.”
That’s probably because they want to make a living. Doing character designs of humans is not something I want to do. I want to make toys, monster toys. It’s one of my goals but not my main goal. I don’t know what my main goal is. I’m still trying to figure it out. I’d like to do motion graphics one day if possible.
Abstract animation?
Yeah. I like James Paterson’s work at presstube.com and the way he explores movement. I’d like to explore that too, except in a different style.
Have you started venturing into that?

I
guess motion is actually something already prevalent in my work. There's
just no real animation yet. My abstract paintings are about visual dynamics,
about rhythm and often a rhythm that's repeated. For instance, I have
a work in progress for an upcoming solo exhibition on the 18th. It's a
progressive sequence made up of five panels -- each one representing a
frame -- and was inspired by music and Flash. In addition to composition
and motifs, the alternating colours of the panel create a rhythm. I try
to suggest subtle movement with my paintings.
Oh, I love the idea... Love it. So, how do you feel about this upcoming show? What's it going to be like?
It's been one and a half years since I had a solo exhibition so I'm excited about it. I haven't seen the space yet, but I'm thinking it'll be kinda more traditional. While I enjoy shows that fuse galleries with clubs and their DJs, it's also nice to have a more formal opening. Anyway, I just want to show people my new work. Hopefully they'll see the progression in it.
What’s your own favourite piece so far?
There are a few pieces that I like more than others. But I don’t
know, I kinda get tired looking at them. I’d say Little
Red Riding Hood is my favourite. It has more meaning to
it -- makes me feel I did something I’d never done before by mixing
analogue and digital mediums. I haven’t done anything so progressive
since then.
