Gez Fry is a freelance illustrator who resides in Tokyo, vacations in
Spain, celebrates weddings in
Hawaii,
and visits the parents in the UK whenever he craves marmite (an English
sandwich spread). He has an M.A. degree in Modern and Medieval Languages
from Cambridge. Nintendo, Adidas, Adobe, Firetrap Clothing, Sports Illustrated
for Kids, and others have published his work and he describes his style
as a mix of East and West. His stereo plays everything from flamenco to
death metal. Snowboarding and karaoke are among his favorite activities
and reading good fiction stimulates his mind’s eye.
What are you currently reading?
Recently I read Our Lady of the Forest by David Guterson and The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy. Both were great. I love Iain M. Banks' sci-fi and I've read just about all of Stephen King's books. I think he's a master of popular storytelling.
There's nothing that fires up my imagination quite as much as reading fiction, so a good novel can be very inspiring -- more in the sense of putting my mind's eye to work than giving me specific ideas to take away and draw in a picture.
